Pegasus Ring
A vivid blue ring featuring a portrait of a Pegasus.
This glowing cobalt blue cameo displays a negative relief of a horse with wings, known as Pegasus in Greek mythology. In an active posture, with wings aloft, this Pegasus looks straight ahead and appears to be mid-gallop. Fine carved details can be seen on the horse's mane and tail fur, on the tufts just above cloven hooves, and on the head including eyes, nostrils, and mouth open. Feathery details line the wings, and the contours and curves of the body and legs give this cameo a truly exquisite appearance - in bright light the Pegasus appears to be surrounded with a pale glow and in low light, the meticulous carving allows this figure to glow one shade lighter, with a saturated lapis blue translucence.
Well-known in mythology, Pegasus is the offspring of Medusa and Poseidon, the bringer of thunderbolts for Zeus, was said to have magical powers, including the power to create springs with his hooves that if you drank from, allowed you to write poetry, and was eventually immortalized in the sky as the constellation Pegasus.
A mythical, regal, and magical ring to wear every day.
The ring is hand built out of sterling silver and plated in a double-thick layer of 14k yellow gold - a technique known as Vermeil.
Pegasus Ring fits size 6.25 - 6.5.
The cameo measures H .5" x W .625" x D .125" and is Murano glass from Murano, Italy.
Please note: Vermeil limits the ability to reheat and resize metal, therefore this ring is not resizable.
